Homelessness in Portland
Hayden Island residents, along with many other Portland neighborhoods are concerned about the amount of homeless in the City. HINooN and Hayden Island residents are pushing to see the old Wapato building transformed into a center for helping those who have lost hope. Whether it be rehab, mental or physical health, employment, or food/bed services, this place could do it all. Trimet has offered free bus service to the facility. The idea has received a lot of interest and could be reality in the near future. More to come on this!
Jantzen Beach Carousel
The old Jantzen Beach carousel still exists in storage and is currently undergoing scrutiny over it's future location. Currently, Restore Oregon is considering proposals from investors on where it's new home will be. Hayden Island residents are adamant it stay on Hayden Island. HINooN reps have met with Restore Oregon reps to make this clear, and will continue to meet with them to help in any way.
